Interzoo 2026: Stay at a Winery Instead of a Trade Fair Hotel
Interzoo 2026 is coming to Nuremberg. Instead of overpriced trade fair hotels: 75 minutes to Weingut Römmert in Volkach. Wellness, Franconian cuisine, and calm after the trade fair day.
Interzoo 2026 Is Coming to Nuremberg
From 12 to 15 May 2026, Interzoo opens its doors once again at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre. With over 2,150 exhibitors from 68 countries and around 40,000 expected trade visitors, it is the world's largest trade fair for the pet industry. Whether pet retailer, pet food producer, or distributor: anyone who matters in the industry will be in Nuremberg for these four days.
And with that begins the truly demanding task for many exhibitors and visitors: finding decent accommodation. Those who book too late end up in an interchangeable business hotel somewhere in the Nuremberg outskirts. Those who plan early enough can do better.
Why Not Stay in Nuremberg?
That is the question almost every trade fair guest asks. The honest answer: there is little that speaks against sleeping in Nuremberg. But there is plenty that speaks for an alternative.
Trade fair week means full capacity in Nuremberg. Hotels within walking distance of the grounds are booked out months in advance, and prices shoot up to two or three times the normal rate. What remains is often far out, yet still expensive. Anyone wanting to drive through the city after a long trade fair day will sit in traffic. Anyone needing to be at the exhibition grounds early in the morning will also sit in traffic.
The alternative lies 50 kilometres to the west, right on the Main Loop near Volkach: Weingut Römmert. A family-run winery, a good restaurant, vineyards right at the doorstep. No conference centre charm, no breakfast buffet for 300 people.
How Do I Get from Volkach to Interzoo?
Volkach is on the B26; from there take the A3 towards Nuremberg, exit Nürnberg-Fischbach or Nürnberg-Hafen. Typically just under 50 minutes. Leaving before 8:00 a.m. usually means arriving at the exhibition centre without significant traffic. Parking at the exhibition grounds costs around 12 euros per day and is easily accessible. Alternatively, the S-Bahn runs from the main station directly to the trade fair, and Volkach station is 4 kilometres from the winery.
The advantage over a hotel in Nürnberg-Langwasser or Schwabach: you drive out of calm in the morning, rather than from a packed hotel straight into trade fair stress. In the evening, you return to a different world. That sounds like a small thing, but over four trade fair days it makes a real difference.
Arrive and Switch Off
Weingut Römmert sits on a rise above Volkach, surrounded by vineyards. The rooms are quiet; the windows face either the courtyard or the vine rows. No street noise, no air conditioning that starts humming at three in the morning.
After a trade fair day of thousands of conversations, hours of standing on concrete floors, and a rucksack full of brochures, most people need above all one thing: a moment when nothing happens. That is exactly what the winery's wellness area offers. The pool is not huge, but it is enough. You sit in it, look at the vineyards, and the trade fair noise feels very far away.
Dinner at Restaurant 1917
Restaurant 1917 at the winery is named after its founding year. The kitchen works with regional produce from Franconia; the wine comes from the estate's own vineyards. Anyone who has spent four days on trade fair food and stand parties will appreciate that.
Silvaner, Spätburgunder, Bacchus: the Weingut Römmert wines have character. At dinner, you can taste your way through the open bottles; the service team is happy to explain which wine comes from which vineyard. That is a different conversation from the ones at trade fair stands during the day, and precisely for that reason it is relaxing.
Breakfast the next morning comes with a view of the courtyard. Those who need to leave early can pre-order breakfast for 7:00 a.m. Coffee, pastries, something warm: that is enough to get onto the A3 in a good mood.
Who Is This For?
In short: anyone not visiting Interzoo as a day trip. Anyone attending all four trade fair days needs accommodation where they actually sleep. Anyone conducting client meetings who needs a clear head benefits from not spending their evenings in a 16-square-metre hotel room.
The winery is particularly suited to small to medium-sized teams travelling to the trade fair together. Two, three, or four rooms are easy to book; you meet in the evening at the restaurant or by the pool and discuss the trade fair day. That is more productive than any debrief in a Nuremberg bar.
Exhibitors building their stand on Monday can arrive on Sunday and start relaxed. Visitors attending only one or two days can use the winery as a base and spend the remaining time exploring the Main Loop. Volkach is a charming town, and the Main Cycle Path runs right past.
Practical Details
Parking is available right at the winery. For those arriving by train: Kitzingen station is the nearest major stop, from there it is about 18 kilometres by taxi. The rooms have Wi-Fi, a desk, and everything needed for a few working days. Anyone planning evening events or needing flexible departure times: best to mention it when booking – the team is used to accommodating trade fair guests.
The Interzoo dates have been fixed for some time, and demand for accommodation in the region rises year on year. Those planning to book for 2026 now will have the widest selection of rooms and avoid the problem many trade fair guests know: realising three weeks beforehand that nothing decent is left.
How Does the Cost Compare?
Nuremberg trade fair hotels often charge between 180 and 300 euros per night for a standard room during trade fair week, without breakfast, often without private parking. Weingut Römmert is priced below that, yet offers considerably more: its own kitchen, its own wines, a quiet location, a pool. Anyone staying four nights gets more for their money than in the city.
Travel costs to the trade fair come on top, but 50 kilometres on the motorway cost less by car than a Nuremberg day ticket for public transport plus parking fees at the hotel. Those arriving as a team and sharing the drive split the costs anyway.
